What a Fire NOC Is

What a Fire NOC Is

A fire NOC is the State fire department confirming that your building meets fire prevention and life safety requirements under the State Fire Services Act and the National Building Code of India, 2016. Delhi applies the Delhi Fire Service Act, 2007, Maharashtra the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006, and other States have laws of their own. There is usually a provisional NOC at the building plan stage and a final NOC before occupation, followed by renewal at intervals.

Factories, warehouses and cold storages, hospitals and nursing homes, schools and coaching centres, hotels, restaurants and banquet halls above the State thresholds, malls, multiplexes and high-rise offices generally do. What triggers the requirement is a mix of building height, built-up area, occupancy type and the number of people inside. Small shops and offices are often exempt, though not always, so we check the rule for your State and building before you spend money on equipment.

What the Inspector Checks

What the Inspector Checks

Approved fire drawings, exits and staircases, hydrants, sprinklers, detection and alarm systems, extinguishers, water storage, emergency lighting and signage. Electrical safety and lift certificates are often asked for as well. We do a walk-through before the inspection, list the shortfalls, and work with your fire contractor to close them before the department visits.

We file on the State fire services portal, coordinate the inspection and answer the observations until the NOC is issued. Validity runs from one to five years depending on the State and the type of building. Operating without a valid NOC can get the premises sealed, and insurers have contested fire claims on exactly that ground, so every renewal goes into our calendar well before it is due.
